Purchased for the museum from antique dealer K. Chaura of Prague.

Spherical pot on three paw feet, with a ribbon handle and sculpted finial on the cover. Decorated with gilt Baroque ornamentation: lambrequins with tassels and scrolls.

Johann Friedrich Böttger developed hard stoneware in 1707 for Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. Initially produced in red and brown, the manufacture of stoneware was expanded to Dresden, Plauen, and Bayreuth.
